Intelligent systems, the Internet of Things, smart factory, and artificial intelligence are just some pillars for 4th industrial revolution. Engineering is driving force behind this new renaissance transportation plays a leading role challenges in mobility needs. In scenario, intelligent systems (ITS) represent an innovative solution various transport issues, such as traffic congestion, air pollution, long travel time, accidents. parallel, going through novel way thinking road pavements: multi-functional infrastructure able to harvest energy exploiting solar radiation or load. As main hurdle ITS find reliable sources, harvesting roads could be great step installing managing electricity supplier. The aim paper review key elements pavements, investigate their coexistence. This describes different techniques that used power solutions. A case study evaluates output section equipped with road, piezoelectric material, thermoelectric generators. Finally, coexistence between pavements critically evaluated, taking into account advantages disadvantages.
